Epson Stylus D92 under test
I’ve owned a few Epson printers in the past and they have always been good machines so when I saw the Stylus D92 it seems like a steal. I knew from previous experience that Epson printer ink cartridges are expensive but also knew that most have compatible printer cartridges available for them and I checked before I bought the printer that Epson D92 ink cartridges where available in compatible form. When removing the D92 from its box the first thing I realised was that it was surprising solid and the build quality has definitely improved from previous Epson models in this range, its compact too measuring just 435 x 219 x 165(mm) so doesn’t take up hardly any room on the desk. Installing the printer is easy there no fancy features to it just plug the power and USB cables; install the drivers from the CD provided and you’re ready to go. When you first switch on the D92 you notice that it’s a noisy beast and when you start printing it gets even nosier, the paper feed is particularly bad when drawing in a sheet of paper. Print quality is good though prints are clear and sharp whether or printing text or photos, the photos have great colour tone and the printing quality is performed with great consistency. The stylus D92 has one fatal flaw however and it something that I only found out after I had bought it. The Epson spec sheet states that the D92 capable of printing twenty five pages per minute but this figure is totally unrealistic, in the real world the D92 prints at a maximum speed of 3 pages per minute in text printing and even the smallest 6×4 photo takes a jaw dropping five minutes. This is far too slow for my and most other people’s needs and makes the D92 a complete waste of time and money.
